Article Creation
Articles on WikiFic can be created in a number of ways:
- Searching for the article and, upon not finding it (whether under your exact spelling/phrasing or a variation thereof), clicking on the red article title and creating the article
- Typing the article name in your address bar after "title=" and typing "&action=edit" at the end of the title, using underscores (_) to indicate articles with spaces in the title
- Using the article generators, such as the Card Article Creators for articles that reference TCG, OCG, or Anime/Manga cards, or the Pairing Generator for articles for the Shipper's List. This is REQUIRED for articles that belong in those sections!
Articles in general, regardless of creation method, should have proper spelling, capitalization, and grammar. When in question of proper spelling, use American English standard spelling, rather than British English or any variants thereof. The reason for this is that this is an English-based Wiki, made for an English-speaking audience, and the owner of this wiki and several contributors live in the United States. If in doubt about spelling or grammar, please ask for help on the Talk page in question.
Articles that have improper content (unrelated, rude, etc.) will be immediately deleted and/or edited on sight.
Article Content
In the case of the Yu-Gi-Oh anime (be it Toei or Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters), information should be given in reverse chronological order, with the most recent information at the top, and older information at the bottom, with notations indicating any inconsistencies between the two (such as new information found out, characters disappearing/dying, characters changing houses in Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters GX. The same applies to the manga as well, where notations should be given when information changes between volumes (use the original numbering system first, followed by the Viz translation numbering system).
Additionally, Japanese words that have a standard or acceptable English translation should NOT be used in this Wiki, or as sparingly as possible. Examples include words such as "Yami" (Dark), "Sennen" (Millennium) and so forth. However, using Japanese names for characters, places, and so on is acceptable. However, Japanese "romanizations" for those names (for example, "Mariku" for Malik Ishtar) is not acceptable.
Links should NOT be added that reference things that are unrelated to the Yu-Gi-Oh fandom specifically, including things like "fangirls" or "fanboys." It is also not acceptable to create an article for off-site fansites, listings, and so on, unless they are large enough to warrant such an article (and that will be up to the discretion of the mods and any parties discussing the article PRIOR to creation). If a link is warranted (for example, on a character profile page, pairing page, etc.) then it should be in the appropriate format, as follows: [http://www.yourwebpage.com Link text Here]
Card Rulings
Card Rulings should be added if and when available. It is not required for rulings to be readily available at the time of article creation, but they should be added when available, as soon as possible after article creation, especially if the cards are in the TCG or OCG and are actively used.
Sites that provide rulings which WikiFic will deem accurate and allowable are limited to the following:
OCG Cards
Though the TCG is the primary concern of this Wiki, there are many instances of cards that only appear in the OCG, and we believe they should be given time in the spotlight as well. Translations of the cards, rather than romanizations of their Japanese names or names given in Japanese text should be given wherever possible. Please use the most common translation available; some of the better translations are available from Edo's Yu-Gi-Oh! page and The edo_list mailing list, but if possible, please ask permission before using them. When in doubt, don't write articles about Japanese OCG cards, even if the information about them is otherwise officially-unreleased.
Shipper's List
As stated on the main Shipper's List page, the only acceptable Shipper names (for the original Yu-Gi-Oh! series) are those found on the official Shipper's List, which is currently maintained by the Shipper's Club on LiveJournal. For GX pairings, consult the GX Shipper's List; while GX 'shipper names are not maintained by the Shipper's Club, it is expected that any GX 'shipping names are those widely accepted and used throughout the GX fandom. Names should not be randomly made-up; they should be used only after having a large number of fanfics or websites about them with which to add to the templates.
Unofficial or fanon names will be accepted, IF AND ONLY IF they are "commonly used" by a group of fans (which should be at least 3 people). Names that are currently pending for possible acceptance onto the list may also be considered for an article use here, especially if a good duration of time passes and they are not officially added, but they are generally used and there is no other alternative name for the pairing in question.
THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO OC CHARACTERS! You may not create ANY 'shipping names with an original (non-canon) character in them. However, Crossover Shippings are allowed, but "time skip" pairings (e.g. "Young Mokuba x Asuka at the end of GX") are not.
For example, Rumorshipping is a fanon name for the pairing of Seto Kaiba x Kisara. The official Shipper's List name is Blueshipping, and because such an official name exists, an article about Rumorshipping would not be acceptable. Were there NOT an official name already on the list, and Rumorshipping were put ON the list as a possible candidate (after being used by many people in fandom already), then it would be acceptable for article creation here on WikiFic.
Redirects
This Wiki will use redirects where necessary, which includes translations or partial versions of character names, places, and episode titles, along with any other similarly-titled articles. For example "Yuugi" or "Yugi" will redirect to Yuugi Mutou. In the case of TCG cards, they will be redirected under the official, current English name, or an appropriate translation thereof. For articles such as card number (codes) or set and card number articles, they will redirect to the original article, rather than have a second copy of the original article or have a second article altogether, when they are about the same subject. WE NEVER want duplicate articles of any kind on this Wiki! It makes information hard to find and adds strain to the server and database.
Names
As indicated above in the Redirects section, we wish to avoid duplication of articles. We also wish to avoid heated debates over the proper spelling/pronunciation/intention of any particular names or translations thereof. For the purposes of this Wiki, we will primarily be using the Japanese names and spelling, along with a particular romanization thereof. The most common names that have rules attached to them are as follows:
- All names should be in the Western format: that is, Given Name Surname. There should be links to Mai Kujaku, but not to Kujaku Mai. This is to avoid confusion with names here on the Wiki, even for those characters that do come from Asian countries and might introduce themselves with their surname first.
- All names should also be complete-- never try and link to an article just called [[Yuugi]] when there is an article called Yuugi Mutou. You can easily have the link be correct and the displaying text be different if context warrants it; it is as simple as putting a pipe character (|) after the name that is the proper link. For example: [[Yuugi Mutou|Yuugi]] will display as: Yuugi. The only exceptions for this are for those characters who may have multiple possible romanizations or spellings of their names, and thus redirects have been set up to bring the user to the correct page, regardless of what the link text says. Still, in all possible circumstances, try to use whatever name has already been established here at the Wiki.
- Yuugi Mutou - should always use two u's, rather than a u-character with a circumflex, or a single u by itself, which is the dub spelling.
- Téa Gardner - should always redirect to Anzu Mazaki, but when used in a dub context, the e-acute MUST be used! To get the symbol, the easiest keystroke methods are:
- On Windows machines, you can hold Alt and press the 0, 2, 3, and 3 buttons on the num pad (the numbers on the far right of the keyboard; this will NOT work on laptop keyboards without a num pad).
- On a Mac, hold the Alt/Option key and press 'e' twice.
- Katsuya Jounouchi - should always have the 'u' after the o-characters (jo and no, respectively), since that is how the name is properly romanized from the kanji of his name. Should NEVER be called "Jou" anywhere here on the site.
- Priest Seto - Should NEVER be called "Set" or "Seth." Set refers to Egyptian god, while "Seth" is a poor and inappropriate translation of said god's name, which has long since been discredited by scholars.
- Pharaoh Atem - Should ALWAYS be used in conjunction with the title, and should NEVER be "Atemu" anywhere in an article, except where mentioning the possible dual translations of the hieroglyphs that make up his name. For the purposes of this Wiki, his name is "Atem" and should always be spelled/romanized as such. See the discussion page on that article for more information.
- Dark Yuugi, Dark Bakura, Dark Malik should always be used for the "Yami no" or "Yami" halves of the characters in question. Do not use Japanese in internal links unless it cannot be properly translated into English. When in doubt, use the translation used by Viz Media in their manga.
- Yami no Geemu/Yami no Game - Please use Game of Darkness and use a pipe if you need it to be plural (Games of Darkness). This fits into established rules for proper names (above), and with the already-outlined Article Content Policy.
- Ishizu Ishtar - refers to both the dub version *AND* the original version of the incarnation of the Priestess who held the Millennium Necklace. Only her Priestess form or references to the Egyptian goddess should be called "Isis." Previously, admins believed they were correct in romanizing her name as "Isis," and that "Ishizu" was the incorrect dub translation, but the romanization between her present form and her past incarnation are in fact different, so the romanization used here on the site should also reflect that.
- Juudai Yuuki - should be spelled with two 'u's in both his given name and surname. In the body of articles, he should always be referred to as "Juudai," and not as "Yuuki," "Yuki," or "Jaden." The only exception to the latter name is if what is being referenced applies to the dub only.
- Asuka Tenjouin, Fubuki Tenjouin - Should always have their surname spelled with an 'ou,' the same was Jounouchi is. Though other romanizations may exist, as noted on either of their pages, this is the one that should be used in the articles when referring to the original character and not the dub incarnation (in which case the last name should be altered to Rhodes, anyway).
- Shou Marufuji, Ryou Marufuji - As with Asuka and Fubuki, any words that use an elongated-o sound should spell it out using 'ou,' and not 'oh' or any other method. As with Dark Bakura's host, Ryou should always be spelled with an 'ou' and never with an 'oh.'
- Manjoume - When referring to Jun Manjoume or any of his brothers/other family members, again, his surname should always use the 'ou' spelling, and not any other method.

Original Characters
Unless original characters have had a significant (and provable) impact on fandom, articles about original characters, pairings, etc. should not be created here on WikiFic. If we allowed "original content" articles, WikiFic would quickly veer away from being resource and would instead be flooded with fanworks. This includes fanart, fanfiction, 'shipping names, and any other content relating to non-canon characters.
