The Legendary Heroes: The First Virtual World

Meeting the Big Five

Return to the Virtual World

It turns out that the fortress is owned and operated by Noa Kaiba, who claims to be the true heir to Kaiba Corporation. It turns out that he is the true biological son of Gozaburo Kaiba, but an accident when he was a child left his body a vegetable. Gozaburo Kaiba "uploaded" Noa's consciousness into a Virtual World, where Noa remained the same age that he essentially 'died' at (around Mokuba's age, which would mean if he had lived, he would be Kaiba's age). After the Big Five were defeated in Kaiba's own Virtual World simulation after Duelist Kingdom, their consciousneses were not lost to cyberspace; instead Noa Kaiba recruited them to help him crush Seto Kaiba once and for all, and take over Kaiba Corporation while he was at it. In return, he would give the Big Five the opportunity to leave the virtual world by taking over the bodies of any wayward duelists that arrived with Seto Kaiba on the fortress.

Yuugi Mutou, Katsuya Jounouchi, Anzu Mazaki, Hiroto Honda, Ryuuji Otogi, Shizuka Kawai, Mokuba Kaiba, and Seto Kaiba all were "sucked into" the Virtual World (they were really knocked unconscious and placed in Virtual World simulators) and forced to duel before they could return to their rightful bodies.

Big Five Duels and the Deckmaster System

The Big Five
Name (Japanese) Name (English dub) Deckmaster
Konosuke Oshita Gansley Deep Sea Warrior
Shuzo Otaki Crump Nightmare Penguin
Chikuzen Oka Johnson Judge Man
Soichirou Ota Nesbitt Robotic Knight
Kogoro Daimon Leichter Psycho Shocker

Dark Yuugi duels against "Big 1" or Konosuke Oshita (Gansley in the dub), Anzu Mazaki duels "Big 2" Shuzo Oshita, Katsuya Jounouchi duels "Big 3" Chikuzen Oka, Hiroto Honda, Ryuji Otogi and Shizuka Kawai duel "Big 4" Soichirou Ota, and Seto Kaiba duels "Big 5" Kogoro Daimon.

When everyone arrives in the Virtual World, they are told that they can build a deck from any of the cards in Noa's virtual database, which extends far beyond any cards that would actually be available to the duelists in real life. The duelists in the tournament stick with decks that are not unlike the ones that they have, but because the God Cards are impossible to be simulated in a virtual world, they do not exist there, and cannot be used.

Everyone also picks a Deckmaster that has special abilities.

Protagonists
Name (Japanese) Deckmaster

Dark Yuugi defeats Konosuke Oshita with Swift Gaia the Fierce Knight, Anzu Mazaki defeats Shuzo Otaki with a combination of the Black Magician Girl and Yuugi's Black Magician, Katsuya Jounouchi defeats Chikuzen Ota with his Deckmaster, the Flame Swordsman, Ryuuji Otogi and Shizuka Kawai defeat Soichirou Ota with St. Joan (Honda actually loses in this duel in order to save Shizuka, and is used as a pawn by the Big Five as a result) and finally, Seto Kaiba uses his trademark Blue-Eyes White Dragon to defeat Kogoro Daimon.

The Big Five possess another Deckmaster when they are all together; the Five-God Dragon from their previous duel against Dark Yuugi, Seto Kaiba, Katsuya Jounouchi, Mai Kujaku and Mokuba Kaiba.

Other notable duels in this arc include both Seto Kaiba and Dark Yuugi's duels against Noa Kaiba, who used Shinato as his Deckmaster, and the virtual Gozaburo Kaiba, who used Exodia Necross as his Deckmaster.
