Hello

  • Hi i'm one of the newest users here. I have taken the liberty to add Yu-Gi-Oh! GX pairings and a pairing i made up. I hope to be a help here. --Yugi Motou 13:30, 7 December 2007 (EST
Hi, Yugi Motou! Welcome to the site, and thank you for all your help. Maintaining so many sites can sometimes be taxing, so I apologize that I didn't get back to your comment sooner. Dragon Slayer has suggested making you a sysop to better help out with the site; are you interested in such a position? If so, please let me know either by commenting here or by emailing me (the address is on my User page).--Azurite 16:56, 25 January 2008 (EST)
  • I'd be glad to be a sysop but just out of curiosty since this is a fandom-based place should I wipe out the character bios? I'm sorry I did not get back to you sooner. I have a large collection of fanfics that i write which along with im chatting takes up alot of my time. But if you do accept me I will do my best to help you. --Yugi Motou 11:54, 28 January 2008 (EST)
Hi, in regards to the character bios, no, they shouldn't be deleted, primarily because the Pairings/Shipper's List rely on character info, and what I'm hoping is to have complete character profiles/bios, extending beyond what is posted elsewhere. But I do appreciate your interest, so I'll make you a SysOp. Just make sure to read the rules on Community Portal (including the Article Policy). Checking out the recent changes and reasons for changes might also be helpful. I've had to make lots of changes recently due to articles that didn't follow these rules; I'd like to make WF as continuous as possible.--Azurite 12:37, 28 January 2008 (EST)
  • I will try but because of my previously mentioned fanfiction I will be at some times busy and unable to update the site. I hope you understand. --Yugi Motou 13:12, 28 January 2008 (EST)
Of course, I'm also busy because of fic writing, too. What I'm trying to do is assemble a TEAM of people willing to help out, so it's not just you and me, it's also Dragon Slayer, and hopefully soon some others.--Azurite 13:15, 28 January 2008 (EST)
  • You write fanfic too? Wow i'd love to check out your stories. My FF penname is WhiteAsukalover. Come check out my stories. I'm sure you'll like them! --Yugi Motou 11:46, 29 January 2008 (EST)
Yup. My penname in most places (FFnet, MMorg) is Azurite, just like it is here... though I've almost exclusively written Azureshipping. :P Anzu's my favorite character...--Azurite 04:22, 30 January 2008 (EST)
*grin* Peachshipping was actually my first 'ship, followed by Revolutionshipping (of course). I still like both of those, but I don't write or read them exclusively anymore. --Azurite 13:34, 31 January 2008 (EST)
  • Aw thats a shame really. I'm in the process of writing a peach one. Sorry it took awhile to reply *embarrased smile* --Yugi Motou 14:28, 5 February 2008 (EST)

Hey

You need some administrators other than you, vandals can come and destroy this place, I was going to e-mail you but there's no confirmed mail for you. Can I suggest Yugi Mutou? I see that he's a very good user and keep this place clean, just a suggestion, of course, the decision is yours. --Dragon Slayer 17:44, 12 December 2007 (EST)

Hi; I apologize for not having an email posted sooner; I thought there was another system of contacting individual users... *furrows brow* Anyway, I appreciate the suggestion; I'll see what "Yugi" says and go from there.--Azurite 16:56, 25 January 2008 (EST)

::le wave::

  • Like Dragon Slayer here, I also come from your sister site, Yu-Gi-Oh! Wikia. I'm Huajun Chen, one of the mods -- TwoTailedFox has been meaning to contact you lately, but never got the chance as far as my knowledge goes. This Wikia: it's a great idea but in all honesty, I'm not sure if it's going in the right direction. Why have random card articles with broken links (Ie: The Fiend Megacyber, Toon Dark Magician Girl, etc) when YGO Wikia already has a full card database? OCG, TCG, manga, anime, and video cards combined, you're looking at over 5,000 articles for each individual card! Why go through all that trouble? As for the character articles, both my Wikia as well as Wikipedia (not to mention half another dozen encyclopedia sites) have the exact same material. I suggest scrapping the above two and keeping WikiFic fandom based only. I can help. I know it seems a little demanding and possible even rude, but if you would make me sysops, I can head this Wikia in the right direction. I’m a long time fan of both DM and GX and well acquainted with many of the authors who write shipping fanfiction. Please, just give me a chance. -- Huajun Chen 22:12, 22 January 2008 (EST)
Hi Huajun; actually, TwoTailedFox has gotten ahold of me and informed me about a lot of the things that are holding this Wiki back. For one, it's not a Wikia; I doubt Wikia (the website) would allow for two Yu-Gi-Oh wikis, even if one is more fandom-based and the other is more TCG based. While you are correct in saying that this site's focus is more fandom-based, I do want to have information on the cards available somehow. While I would prefer not to "leech" information from the Yu-Gi-Oh! Wikia, I would like some sort of partnership in place where users of either site could find information on whatever they needed. Further, there are lots of cards that exist in both the anime and the manga, which are more of the primary focus here; I'd like people to be able to get more information on those cards than just what is used in the TCG/OCG. Finally, regarding character articles, they will stay here, if only because other sites (Wikipedia especially) tend to get the information wrong. Since this is a fandom-exclusive wiki, it is less likely to be vandalized and peppered with "fangirl" information from those who don't know. Furthermore, other articles have information where it might be critical to refer to character pages; since they're planned to be much more extensive than what exists elsewhere.
Considering that this is NOT a Wikia and therefore doesn't have many of the same features that Wikias do, I'd like to know how making you a SysOps would help; what would you do as a SysOps that you can't do as a regular user? Thanks for commenting, and if you need to get back to me, you can either comment here or email me at the address posted on my User page.--Azurite 16:56, 25 January 2008 (EST)
I see. Well, for one, Sysops can delete articles while normal users can't. We can revive deleted articles and files, multi-upload files, and various other things I don't actually use because my template-making abilities are phailure. ._. Mostly it's the ability to delete articles. -- June 13:41, 3 February 2008 (EST)
It is true that in case of mass-spamming and the like, having a team of SysOps to delete those articles quickly is good, but what I'm concerned about is that people think that this is like the Wikia, and it's not. This was here first and has a different goal, different policies, etc. It even runs on a different platform-- there are things that can be done with Wikia that just can't be done with this Wiki. I'm afraid people would start deleting articles (or worse, templates and redirects that I have intentionally protected) willy-nilly without understanding the policy. So as long as I'm clear in getting those difference (this Wiki vs. Wikia) across, and the policies/goals of this Wiki across, I'm fine with a whole team of more SysOps. --Azurite 21:00, 6 February 2008 (EST)

Admins

See Huajun Chen in Yu-Gi-Oh! Wikia, she is a great editor with over 20,000 editions in her edit count. About me, I'm reliable, I always search for ways to help others and have stopped a bunch of vandals and spammers, most of guys from Yu-Gi-Oh! Wikia, trust me. And Yugi, he hasn't been very active lately but did a great job before, I suggested him as an admin and he really seemed interested. We are the only users currently active. I see that you protect templates and Main Page, it isn't necessary with more than one admin helping around. --Dragon Slayer 01:13, 27 January 2008 (EST)

  • By the way, we can team up with Yu-Gi-Oh! Wikia, everyday we have to face with users that want to create fan made characters in Yu-Gi-Oh! Wikia (like that DuelLegacy guy, who caused me many troubles). I'm sure that can make both Wikis better. --Dragon Slayer 01:17, 27 January 2008 (EST)
If Huajun and Yugi get back to me, I'll be glad to make them SysOps, as I'm a firm believer that a Wiki can really only be maintained with a team. I've tried doing a lot of the work (esp. backend stuff) on my own, and it's incredibly difficult. I'd appreciate any help, so long as it's sincere. Also, thanks for informing me about DuelLegacy; I wasn't aware that he created articles that existed needlessly, were spelled wrong, and didn't follow the rules. What about yourself for helping out, though? Are you also interested? --Azurite 04:34, 27 January 2008 (EST)
I'm always willing to help, of course I would like to belong to the staff. That DuelLegacy was really a trouble for me on Yu-Gi-Oh! Wikia, he eventually started insulting everyone and was blocked. He is not a person who accepts rules, he wants to do everything as he says. --Dragon Slayer 11:17, 27 January 2008 (EST)
Hi Dragon Slayer, I've made you a SysOp. I really hope you can help contribute to WikiFic and help it become a great Wiki, even alongside the existing Wikia (which I would like a better way of linking to, btw. I know you can do "interwiki" links, but I'm not sure how that works when they're on different servers and are technically running different versions of the Wiki software).--Azurite 13:17, 28 January 2008 (EST)
Thanks, I will help you as much as possible. --Dragon Slayer 16:26, 28 January 2008 (EST)

GX Template corrected

  • Here's the corrected GX template.
Regarding Juudai's name, we use the Hepburn romanization system, where all syllables are romanized, and we don't use special characters like circumflexes. That is, his name should be romanized as Juudai Yuuki. Other names with similarly elongated vowels (Shou, Ryou, Tenjouin) should also follow this format. --Azurite 13:14, 28 January 2008 (EST)
  • I'm not familiar with what you mean. Mind delving into it a bit more? --Yugi Motou 11:45, 30 January 2008 (EST)
  • All right thanks for the update. --Yugi Motou 08:09, 31 January 2008 (EST)
Does it make sense now? I'm sorry if it was a bit confusing. --Azurite 13:35, 31 January 2008 (EST)
  • It makes a little more sense. --Yugi Motou 09:37, 1 February 2008 (EST)

Card Articles

Will we continue adding card articles or just link them to Yu-Gi-Oh! Wikia ones? --Dragon Slayer 16:32, 28 January 2008 (EST)

I think linking to the Wikia will probably be helpful for the most part; there are some cards that might need to be included for other reasons, e.g. Blue-Eyes White Dragon, the God Cards, etc.--Azurite 19:41, 28 January 2008 (EST)
Ok, so only the most notorious will be made. --Dragon Slayer 22:03, 28 January 2008 (EST)
I'm thinking when it comes to TCG/OCG-original cards, we'll stick to Wikia, but for cards that appear in the anime and manga, it might be helpful to have an article here. I'm not sure if Wikia covers some of the things I originally wanted to do with card articles, such as outlining differences between the TCG/OCG versions and the anime/manga ones.--Azurite 23:19, 28 January 2008 (EST)

DuelLegacy

I just recently blocked other two accounts that guy had on Yu-Gi-Oh! Wikia, we must be very careful with him, I'll leave on his userpage a major warning. --Dragon Slayer 22:03, 28 January 2008 (EST)

Thanks, I appreciate it. I've known about vandals who spam, but not about vandals who like to create seemingly-legitimate looking articles full of fanon. >( Very frustrating. He hasn't done anything hardcore and terrible here YET, but I did delete his user page and some of the links he made for misspelled and fanon junk. --Azurite 23:18, 28 January 2008 (EST)
I protected your userpage from being changed or moved and your talk from being moved since most of edits to Bureaucrats' pages from non-admin users are vandalism. --Dragon Slayer 23:20, 28 January 2008 (EST)
*grin* Thanks! I suppose you're proving why I was too overly optimistic before... I never thought people would do things like that! --Azurite 23:21, 28 January 2008 (EST)
Yes, I have to deal with that people everyday, that's why its better to take precautions. --Dragon Slayer 23:51, 28 January 2008 (EST)

Crossover Pairings?

  • This is a question thats been bugging me for days so i'll finally ask. Are crossover pairings allowed? For example: Yugi X Asuka or Jun X Anzu (or the dub names whichever is used in the crossover) --Yugi Motou 14:01, 1 February 2008 (EST)
  • Let me know ASAP because i have dozens of new pairing ideas. --Yugi Motou 14:28, 5 February 2008 (EST)
Well... Truth be told, I never thought of it before. Considering they're within the same universe, I see no reason not to, but I'm thinking for the pairing list, we'll have to split it up: one for the original, which is only for Yu-Gi-Oh!, another for GX pairings, and a third for crossover ones. Typically I'd prefer to use names (e.g. ~shipping) that are established in fandom already, but if there aren't too many people doing Crossover pairings, it's fine if you invent your own. Just remember when making any pairing names to try and NOT use already-in-use pairing names, and DO USE the pairing generator to properly use the templates. --Azurite 20:56, 6 February 2008 (EST)
All right i can set things up. I have quite a few already in mine. So i'll split up the Original and GX pairings into separate lists then create one for Crossover shippings. --Yugi Motou 09:56, 7 February 2008 (EST)
So far i've split up the original and GX ones but i have yet to make a crossover one. Here are a few suggestions for naming.
  1. Yuugi X White Asuka
  2. Shou X Yuugi
  3. Rei X Rebecca
  4. Rei X Mokuba (where Mokuba is not aged like in the anime)
When you can lemme know whatcha think. --Yugi Motou 11:48, 12 February 2008 (EST)
Did you come up with ~shipping names for any of them? They're all perfectly viable pairings, though not-aging Mokuba but aging everyone else might be tricky. GX is based on the premise that everyone from the original universe has aged, and that's why they're no longer actively involved in Duel Monsters and saving the world through the game. The only other thing to keep in mind is to not use already-existing pairing names used by either GX or by the original series. For GX, I got SamCyberCat to donate a list of commonly-used GX shipper names; I'm not sure which of those are already up or in use, but I'll try and get those over asap. --Azurite 14:46, 12 February 2008 (EST)
  • for Yuugi X White Asuka i came up with lightshipping based on their personalities. for Rei X Rebecca is obsessshipping because they obsess over their crushes and for Shou X Yuugi i said shyshipping since their naturally shy. Lemme know what you think of them ASAP --Yugi Motou 09:46, 13 February 2008 (EST)
So far they all sound fine, but double-check to make sure none of those names are in use by another pairing from the original series, or are widely-accepted for another set of characters for GX. --Azurite 02:07, 23 February 2008 (EST)
How do i do that? --Yugi Motou 19:27, 23 February 2008 (EST)
The easiest way would be to search for your preferred pairing names, e.g. Lightshipping, both here and on, say, Google, and see what comes up. If no article exists here by that name, but the name is widely in-use for the pairing in question, by all means, create the article. DO NOT create an article if the name is already associated with another pairing, whether from the original series or other characters in GX. Also, as an aside, when replying to comments, use the colon wiki markup : instead of bullet points. It helps keep everything nicely threaded instead of oddly-indented. Just add an additional colon when replying to a reply (e.g. :: goes after :). --Azurite 01:12, 24 February 2008 (EST)
All right but do I make changes to the article template for itself? --Yugi Motou 08:10, 25 February 2008 (EST)
What do you mean? Whenever you make a template, it's supposed to apply to a bunch of articles that have a common theme, in this case, they're Crossover Ships. So you'd want to edit the template to reflect that, but other than that, you could virtually use the same templates and article generators as we already have for the other 'ships. --Azurite 01:58, 4 March 2008 (EST)
I'll try. --Yugi Motou 14:05, 4 March 2008 (EST)
  • Can we make our own pairings? Because I made one with Seto Kaiba and a Original Character that belongs to me. I called it Nekoshipping. --Firey Girl 12:46, 17 February 2008 (EST)
Existing characters with Original Characters aren't welcomed here on WikiFic because they could overtake the whole wiki. Because Original Characters are defined by their creators, there would be an infinite amount of them. I'm not stopping you from using it elsewhere, but here on WikiFic, we'd like to focus on fandom as it relates to canon works alone, without any original characters. --Azurite 02:07, 23 February 2008 (EST)
Okay, I got it. Thank you --Firey Girl 11:55, 23 February 2008 (EST)
  • So have you considered my pairings? --Yugi Motou 14:18, 18 February 2008 (EST)
Yes, see above; sorry it took me a while to get back to you. --Azurite 02:07, 23 February 2008 (EST)

Cleanup

Ok, I'll help you with that. I was thinking seriously in blocking DuelLegacy, because research found that he had 5 accounts at Yu-Gi-Oh! Wikia, three of them blocked for vandalism. He definitely wasn't gonna help. --Dragon Slayer (Contribs) 16:54, 23 February 2008 (EST)
