Toei
From WikiFic
Toei is the animation company that was responsible for Yu-Gi-Oh!'s first incarnation as an animated television series. It is also famously known for producing shows including Sailor Moon and Dragonball. Perhaps because NAS's rendition of the show, Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters is better known and still licensed in many countries, Toei does not widely advertise its version of Yu-Gi-Oh!, whether at its museums in Japan or on its websites in English.
Differences between the Toei animation and NAS animation
The Toei-produced Yu-Gi-Oh series is often incorrectly referred to as 'Season 0,' or 'Yu-Gi-Oh: A Shadow Game' as if it were related to the second Yu-Gi-Oh! animation, Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters, which was produced by an entirely different company, NAS.
The Toei animation's episodes adapted the first several volumes of the original Yu-Gi-Oh! manga (approximately volumes 1-7), while the Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters animation began after those volumes, incorporating very little of the Toei animation's plot points.
The Toei animation lasted for 27 episodes, while the Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters animation lasted for over 200, spanning the bulk of the original manga's length, and adding a few filler arcs inbetween. The Toei animation had several episodes which were not directly related to any arc of the manga, but it retained much of the original manga's early penchant for violence.
