Canonical Role
Rishid is Malik's right-hand man and the only Ghoul Malik does not control with the Millennium Rod. He pretends to be Malik during the qualifying rounds of Battle City and the first part of the finals. He has a hand in kidnapping Mokuba Kaiba and appears when Malik brainwashes Katsuya Jounouchi. He also manages to get two sets of Puzzle Cards: one for Malik, and one for himself (Malik did not duel at all in Battle City until the quarter-finals, which should have disqualified him, but Kaiba decided against it).
In the Battle City quarter-finals, Rishid duels against Jounouchi (in the guise of Malik) and does admirably, but is disqualified after he attempts to summon a Fake Ra and is knocked out, allowing Malik's Dark Personality ("Dark Malik") to be unleashed.
At the end of the finals, Rishid awakens and encourages Malik to overcome his dark personality.
Biography
Rishid's true parentage is unknown. He was found by Mrs. Ishtar, Malik and Isis' mother, outside the Necropolis as a baby. She raised him as his own son, however, Mr. Ishtar wasn't fond of him. He grudgingly agreed to allow the boy to become his successor if he did not have a blood son before Rishid's tenth birthday.
When Rishid was nine, Malik was born. (If Malik is 16, like many of the other main characters, Rishid would be about twenty-five during Battle City.) Mrs. Ishtar died soon after, and Rishid promised to protect Malik. After Malik's birth, Mr. Ishtar made Rishid a servant and treated him very cruelly. At one point, we see him throw a lit candle at Rishid. Rishid tried to protect Malik as much as he could, but one day a snake bit the young Malik.
Malik grew very ill and almost died, and Mr. Ishtar threatened to kill Rishid. In a stark contrast to the present storyline's Rishid, he decided to kill Malik at that point. However, Malik woke up and called Rishid his brother, which caused Rishid to change his mind and become very loyal to Malik.
When Malik is ten, he is forced to undergo the Tombkeeper's traditional ritual of having an intricate pattern carved into the skin of his back. Malik is very unwilling, and Rishid tries to take his place. However, Mr. Ishtar refuses, and Malik is dragged off to undergo the ritual. During that ritual, as a symbol of solidarity, Rishid carves a set of hieroglyphs into his face. Those scars are what, later, allow Rishid to seal the dark personality of Malik.
After he's healed, Malik decides he wants to go outside. Isis takes him, while Rishid tries to hide it. Mr. Ishtar trapped the door and knows that they left. He takes his anger out on Rishid, whipping him brutally. Malik and Isis return to see Rishid pass out from the pain, and....
The next thing Malik knows is that his father is dead, Rishid is awake, and he has the Millennium Rod. He leaves with Rishid very quickly to take revenge for Mr. Ishtar's death.
Dueling
Rishid is a good, if underrated duelist. He manages to get two full sets of Puzzle Cards and does very well in his duel against Jounouchi. He would have won if he hadn't canceled his last attack to summon the Fake Ra card.
Rishid uses an unbalanced Egyptian-themed deck made up almost entirely of trap cards.
Speculation
Some people think that Rishid may be the reincarnation of Priest Kalim; however, there is very little canonical evidence. In the manga, it is mentioned that Kalim uses trap monsters, and in the anime Priestess Isis seems to care for Kalim a great deal, but their names are (obviously) different and there are no handy flashbacks. He also bears a startling resemblance to Priest Shaada, but again, there is no canonical evidence to support an actual "reincarnation" theory.
