Mind Control
From WikiFic
In the Yu-Gi-Oh universe, many villains have the power of mind control. Marik Ishtar's Millennium Rod allowed him to control minds. Sartorius was also able to control minds with his powers. Both of these villains form mind-controlled organizations, the Rare Hunters and the Society of Light.
A victim of mind control often has blank eyes, with no black dots. A glow is sometimes used to show when a person is being taken over.
The victim will normally still do what they were commanded to even when their eyes have gone back to normal. For example, Jaden was briefly mind controlled by Sartorius' good side in episode 93. He was told never to give the satellite key back. Even when his eyes went back to normal, he still seemed to obey without question. However if the victim isn't defeated in a duel or in some way severed from the mind control they will remain that way. In other words the controlled person will fall under eternal mind control which happens when a is never set free or never breaks free. If this occurs the controlled person most likely would serve their "master" forever or at least until their eventual death. The only time this could have occured was in Episode 93 and 94 of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Heart of Ice 1 and 2 respectively. If Jaden Yuki hadn't defeated Alexis Rhodes she would stay controlled possibly forever as explained by Atticus Rhodes in the japanese version.
There are two main types of mind control victims. The first kind is a Mind Slave, who obeys their master but have a mind of their own. Lumis and Umbra were Mind Slaves. The second kind is a Mind Puppet, who is directly controlled by their master. Strings was an example of a Mind Puppet. In the third season Yu-Gi-Oh GX the season's main villain Yubel introduced characters actually possessing others. While this was very similar to a mind puppet, the victim's voice was (usually) unchanged (Yubel would sometimes speak in its own voice the Japanese version, or inhuman sounding one that actually didn't sound like its voice or its victims voice).
It is unknown if Alexis Rhodes was either of these because unlike previously controlled characters when she spoke her voice wasn't distorted or modulated- She sounded just like she normally would. The only difference was her eyes were dull and lifeless but unlike most controlled ones she could blink or show expression with her eyes which further adds to the debate of whether she truly was being controlled but she probably was as during their duel she referred to Jaden in rather derisive ways such as referring to him as a "dork" or "loser" but this was due to the fact that she was turned cold and heartless, her usual self probably wouldn't refer to him in such a derogatory manner. However, it is more likely that she was a mind slave, as she had her fierce personality. Like most victims, she was freed after her defeat. Also most mind control victims will have little or no memory of what occurred while they were controlled. For example, when Alexis Rhodes returned to normal she did not know where she was or the fact that she and Jaden had just dueled. As mentioned previously, a mind slave defeated in a duel will usually be freed of the influence. It is also possible to break through the mind control, as Joey Wheeler did when Marik controlled him (something that shocked Marik).
