The Kessoku - UNITY Spell card from the Japanese OCG.

The promotional card Kessoku (Unity) was released alongside the magic/spell card Yu-Jyo (Friendship) in the Yu-Gi-Oh Japanese manga character guide, Gospel of Truth. The card is meant to be used in tandem with the Yu-Jyo and Judgment of the Pharaoh cards, released only for the Japanese Original Card Game (OCG).

Unlike Yu-Jyo, which is a Normal Spell card, and Judgement of the Pharaoh, which is a trap card, Kessoku is an Instant Magic/Quick Play spell card. Its effect is as follows: Choose 1 Monster on your Field. Until the End Phase, the defense strength of the chosen Monster becomes the total of the base defense strengths of all face-up Monsters on your Field. (From Edo's Yu-Gi-Oh page)

Use in the Trading Card Game (TCG)

Unlike its partner card Yu-Jyo (Friendship), Kessoku (Unity) would probably only find itself restricted to one or two in the metagame as opposed to banned. Its play value is significantly less but is still a very good card.

Against a defensive deck that uses cards such as Total Defense Shogun, it is possible to get a creatures defense up as high as 9500 (this is the highest I know of at this point, though I'm fairly sure it could easily be MUCH higher), which, in the right situation, that deck can also be a one-turn kill deck.

Being a Quick Play Spell makes this card a lot more playable, and a replacement for The Reliable Guardian under any circumstances. Against the fabled Labyrinth Wall deck, used by Mei and Kyuu (Para and Dox in the dub anime), this card could give a free 9000 DEF boost to any monster, just using the main monster of the deck.

Released in English as "Unity" as a Shonen Jump promotional card (JUMP-EN006) included in the September 2006 issue of Shonen Jump magazine, it was made available in conjunction with the related cards "Judgment of the Pharaoh" (released in Yu-Gi-Oh!: Millennium World Vol. 4, JUMP-EN008) and "Yu-Jo Friendship" (released in Yu-Gi-Oh!: Duelist Vol. 16, JUMP-EN007).
