Canon

Canon is what is established by the official Yu-Gi-Oh manga, as drawn by Kazuki Takahashi (and released in Japan by Weekly Shounen Jump and in America by Viz Media), and/or what is established in the anime (either the never-released-to-America Toei animation or the NAS-produced version that is used for the dub). Some people also consider the content of the spinoff series Yu-Gi-Oh! R penned by Akira Itou (supervised by Kazuki Takahashi) to also be canon, though it is loosely based of the Shin Duelist 8/Reshef of Destruction video game for Game Boy Advance. There are also a variety of Yu-Gi-Oh video games, several of which are RPGs. These are Forbidden Memories for the Playstation, Duelist of the Roses for the Playstation 2, Dawn of Destiny for the X-Box, and Falsebound Kingdom for the Gamecube.

Note that the video games often feature characters and story elements that never appear in either the anime or the manga, so not all people would be familiar with them, nor consider them "canon."

Note also that "canon" is not the same as "cannon" (a really large gun). --Azurite 14:17, 7 Dec 2005 (EST)
