Advanced Format

The Advanced Format refers to what cards in the TCG are Forbidden, Limited, or Semi-Limited. This affects deck structure, as certain cards may not be used in decks at all, while others are limited to only one or two copies (unlimited cards may have up to three copies within the deck). For most official or sponsored tournaments, including Regional, National, and World Championship events, Advanced Format is mandatory.

Advanced Format limits the use of a variety of cards, completely banning other cards which are believed to be too powerful (or "broken"), had no drawbacks, or ended games too quickly (such as "One-Turn Kill" cards). However, because many of the cards that were banned in Advanced Format were favorites of many players, a Traditional Format was also set up, where no cards are Forbidden, they are only Limited or Semi-Limited.

As of March 1st, the following cards are Forbidden/Banned, Limited, or Semi-Limited in Advanced Format:

I. Forbidden Cards
You cannot use these cards in your Deck or Side Deck:


NEW! - Breaker the Magical Warrior, Graceful Charity, Last Will, Magician of Faith, Victory Dragon

II. Limited Cards
You can ONLY use one of the following cards in the Deck & Side Deck combined:


NEW! - Chain Strike, Crush Card Virus, Dimension Fusion, Elemental Hero Stratos, Giant Trunade, Mind Crush, Neo-Spacian Grand Mole, Overload Fusion, Snatch Steal

III. Semi-Limited Cards
You can ONLY use two of the following cards in the Deck & Side Deck combined:



NEW! - D.D. Assailant, Mask of Darkness, Metamorphosis

NEW! - The following cards are no longer Limited: Exiled Force, Injection Fairy Lily, Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys, Upstart Goblin
